Italia 1-1 Greece.
The two teams are in the last of Group F of the 2016/17 Europa League qualifying competition with the other group-mates in the third qualifying round of the tournament in the Czech Republic.
The win in Pisa was the first time Italy has defeated Greece since the 1-2 draw in October.
A late equaliser by Gianluigi Buffon put Italy ahead in the 87th minute with a corner.
However, Greece’s Alexandros Voulgaras’ shot from outside the box was well saved by Pisa goalkeeper Petr Fink.
After a delay of five minutes, the second half was on the pitch with a goal scored by Piotr Kuznetsov and a penalty awarded to Italy after Mario Mandzukic was fouled in the box by Mario Lemina.
The game ended with both teams tied at 1-all.
“It was a very difficult game, we were down to 10 men and that’s when we decided to leave the field and leave it at that,” Kuzotsov said.
“We tried to play some good football and we’re very pleased with that.
It’s the first victory of the season and we can only hope that we can keep this momentum going and finish in the top four.”
“We’re very happy, we’ve played very well in the first half, we took our chances and scored our goals, we are a very positive team,” said Mandzuka, who scored the equaliser for Greece in the 86th minute.
“The goal gave us a boost, it’s good for the team and it shows the quality of the team.”
The win means Italy will play their first round game against Albania on Friday in Piacenza.
On Saturday, Italy will host Greece in a group game in Pescara.
