JOHN, N.J. (AP) A New Jersey state lawmaker says the warning sign for people with Stage 3 cancer is to get out of the car seat and into the car.
It’s part of the warning of a $4 million pilot program that started Monday in Newark, New Jersey, to test the effectiveness of new technologies for detection and treatment of melanoma in cars.
The program is the latest step in a decades-long push to test and evaluate new technology in cars to better detect and treat the deadly form of the disease.
The Newark experiment is part of a larger nationwide effort by automakers to evaluate new technologies in the auto industry.
The program is part, along with the California-based Center for Automotive Research, of a broader nationwide initiative called the Car Seat Safety Innovation Alliance.
The cars are being tested with sensors that measure the air pressure, temperature and other characteristics of the occupants and can then detect if they are in the carseat and if they have melanoma.
In Newark, more than 1,300 people have been tested with the sensors in Newark.
The tests have been ongoing since March, with about 900 people showing a positive test result, according to the state’s Office of Health and Human Services.
The car seat sensors are also being tested in other states.
In Texas, the state is testing 1,000 people in cars with seats that can be opened to detect and measure air pressure and temperature.
More than half of those people have tested positive.
Texas has not tested its cars with sensors, the Office of the State Health Officer said.
But the testing was being done in a pilot program, which is a federally funded program to test new technologies and help test the safety of them.
It is unclear if any of the other states are testing with the car seats.
The pilot program has already been a hit in New Jersey.
Newark Mayor Cory Booker says the program has helped to curb car crashes and has brought down the city’s rate of car accidents.
But he says many of the cars are still in service, and that there’s still a lot of damage to the roads.
